6 Popular Exterior Design Trends

6 POPULAR EXTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS

2020 is the year of the exterior design trends!  We’ve highlighted 6 Popular Exterior Design Trends we’d like to share with you:

(1) OUTDOOR PATIOS/KITCHENS- Take things outdoors with an outdoor patio and/or kitchen! Outside living spaces add charm and enhance the curb appeal of your property. Consider a deck or pavers, hot tub, fire pit, gazebo, outdoor kitchen, bar, fireplace, water feature or fountain or pool. Custom-bult pergolas or arbors are great ways to provide shade. Create an inviting patio entry and fill the space with plants and landscape as you see fit.

(2) GARAGE DOORS- Think out with the old and in with the new…big and beautiful! Garage doors are stepping up their game and are becoming beautiful, decorative statement pieces for houses. Simple designs made with eco-friendly, sustainable materials are popular these days. Decorative hardware is used to enhance unique patterns, black doors, reclaimed wood, or contemporary glass doors.

(3) FRONT DOOR ENTRY- Front door entry’s have many design options to choose from. Front door color trends in 2020 include bright turquoise, red, yellow, or glossy black. Doors with windowpanes allow natural sunlight to shine into your foyer. Oversized front door(s) add charm both inside and outside of your home.

(4) MIXED DESIGN STYLES- A mix of old and new design styles are popular. Homeowners are mixing farmhouse styles with modern touches. Mixed-use siding (board and batten siding) along-side stone has gained popularity. Showcasing exposed beams and using black window frames both compliment crisp white siding. Consider hanging metal house numbers and industrial-inspired modern lamp fixtures. Also adding a wood stained or painted front door will help tie together a mixed design style look.

(5) COLORFUL FLOWERS & FOLIAGE– Whether your yard is small or large, planting colorful flowers and foliage will brighten things up and give your yard character. You might want to plant some perennials and annuals around your mailbox post (if you have one). Also consider using an assortment of shrubbery with varied textures, colors, and heights when planting in your garden/yard. Window boxes and planters are also a fun way to decorate with flowers and foliage. Remember to keep up with replacing old plans year-round/as they are in season, so your colorful flowers and foliage look great all year long.

(6) SOLAR ENERGY- Use the power and energy from the sun to your advantage! Solar panels are a great investment if you are looking to increase your home’s energy efficiency. The initial investment can be high, but over time you will save on energy costs and this balances it out. If you plant a few trees on the west side of your home, the sun and rain will provide shade in the summer. Not to mention this also adds beauty and curb appeal to your property. Solar lighting is also popular and is quite affordable. Solar lighting can be placed along your walkways, in your landscape, near trees and steps.
