Last year we published our tips for summer maintenance for your custom home in out “6 Point Summer Maintenance Checklist.”

We’re back with a 7 more summer maintenance tips for your custom home. With summer already here, these are items you should look into right now.

  1. Take a peek at your roof: Annual roof inspections are a good idea, but with summer rains, you want to be sure you don’t have a pending leak issue. If you find holes, crumbling, blistering or rotting roofing, repair or replace it.
  2. Check your home’s crawlspace: Inspect for water damage, animals, or other foreign matter and then clean it out.
  3. Clean or power-wash: It is common in Florida for algae growth and mildew frequently appears on the siding.
  4. Check your AC system: These are grueling months for your HVAC system. Consider having it serviced by a professional. Change out the air filters. This will not only ensure you stay cool this summer, but also help keep your energy bill low and pollutants out of your home.
  5. Clean windows and repair any ripped screens. If a screen has a large hole in it, it’s time to replace it.
  6. Test any surge protected outlets: plug in a lamp, hit the test button and then the reset button to see if it turns the light off and then on again.
  7. Test Smoke Detectors: Test smoke detectors and replace batteries or devices if necessary.

We recommend you also look at the 6 Point Summer Maintenance Checklist from last year as well. These 13 points will give you some peace of mind, and likely a better summer.

Have a great, trouble free summer!
