Henry B. Plant High School is a public high school located in South Tampa between South Himes Avenue and Dale Marbry Highway. Opened in 1927, it is named for the railroad and hotel tycoon Henry B Plant. His railroad connected Tampa to the United States railroad system in 1884, fueling the growth of the area. Plant’s graduation rate of 93% widely outstrips the state average of 74.5% and the Hillsborough County average of 72.6%

Some 89 % of Plant graduates pursue college of vocational programs and 75% return to a second year of college. Infact, in both 2018 and 2019, Plant earned a College Success Award based on its success in preparing students for college and ultimately a carreer.

In addition to Henry B Plant High School, South Tampa is home to top Elementary and Middle Schools as well. GreatSchools.org ranked schools like Mabry Elementary, Gorrie Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Grady Elementary and Mitchell Elementary as top elementary schools in the area. Among Middle Schools, GreatSchools.org noted Coleman Middle School, and Wilson Middle School as top schools.
